Blessed Martyr Theodore Romzha (October 31)

"For peace in the whole world, for the stability of the holy Churches of God, and for the union of all, let us pray to the Lord." - the Litany of Peace

Born in Transcarpathia, Blessed Theodore felt a calling to the priesthood. Studying in Rome, he was ordained in 1937. In 1939, he was called to the teach at the seminary in Uzhhorod. In 1944, he was ordained bishop for the Mukachevo Eparchy. During the Soviet occupation, he was tireless in his care and defense of the Byzantine Catholic Church. On October 27, 1947, he was wounded in a staged accident. He was taken to the hospital, where he was subsequently poisoned, and died.

Troparion (Tone 4): My father, my father! The chariots of Israel and its horsemen! Upon a cart as upon his throne, Theodore has been carried beyond the sanctuary veil. Let fall, O father, your mantle of prayer, and beseech Christ to save our souls.
Kontakion (Tone 8): Though the godless poured poison into your veins, your heart still beats with love for Christ, O Bishop Theodore, martyred father, who now raise your prayer before the throne of God
